Lisa Anthony is Supervising Teacher at Tom Thumb. A very experienced early childhood educator, Lisa joined our community after teaching at Marineview Preschool for 16 years. Prior to receiving her ECE certificate, she completed a Bachelor of Special Education degree at UBC and taught special needs children in the public school system. With her wealth of skills and experience, Lisa brings a warm and patient approach to the classroom. She unleashes children’s creativity with endless new and interesting activities, while supporting them to understand structure, communicate with one another and apply their curiosity to the world around them. The mother of three grown children, Lisa was born and raised in Vancouver and enjoys getting away to her family cabin on Gambier Island.
Tom Thumb welcomed Leah Rush as Supervising Teacher's Assistant in September 2017. Leah’s passion for working with children began in her home province of Ontario, where she earned her ECE certification and held roles in a variety of settings. Leah has many fond memories of working as a summer camp counsellor throughout high school and post secondary. After graduation, she worked as a nanny and in a ski resort’s childcare centre. From there, Leah set the goal of teaching in a preschool setting, where she was drawn to create new opportunities in the classroom environment. The children at Tom Thumb have thrived under Leah’s gentle, nurturing guidance, and have enjoyed sharing her interests in the outdoors, arts and crafts.
