Scholarship Information for Tom Thumb Preschool
In the fall of 2005, the Sue Fisher Scholarship Fund was established in order to provide an opportunity for financially challenged families to participate in Parent Participation Preschools.
- The Scholarship was created by our school’s parents on behalf of Sue Fisher who taught at Tom Thumb Preschool from 1994 – 2006.
- Sue Fisher’s dedication to Tom Thumb Preschool and her commitment to young children and their families allowed our school’s legacy to flourish.
- It is through the Sue Fisher Scholarship Fund that the families of our school wish to help others and continue this legacy to which Sue contributed so greatly.
Eligibility
- In general, to be eligible, a parent must certify that their child would not be able to attend PPP if not for the scholarship fund money.
- Parents of children who benefit from this fund must agree to go through orientation, carry a portfolio, and participate in duty days & general meetings.
Identifying Candidates
If your family is experiencing a financial situation that may require the assistance of the fund, or if you are aware of another family in a difficult financial position that may want to join PPP (subject to space availability), please do not hesitate to contact one of the co-treasurers or the enrollment chair.
The local health unit may help identify families who might benefit from the preschool program.
Copies of the application package are left with the Community Health Nurse at Pacific Spirit.
- Information regarding applications is kept confidential between the co-treasurers, supervisory teachers, and enrollment chair.
- Families are not asked for proof of financial need. However a Scholarship Application needs to be completed before a family can be considered; in this they would certify that they would not be able to attend preschool without the Scholarship money.
- Registration fees are covered fully from the Scholarship Fund. However, families are to pay a partial amount toward tuition ($20 per month).
